Lions Memorial Forest Pathways Project
Lion Henry Czarnota, on behalf of the Olds Lions Club, submitted an application for a grant to have the walkways in the Lions Memorial Forest paved in concrete. The Mountain View Power Grant Committee selected this project for the 2024 grant. The grant given was for $15,000.00. The paved pathways will benefit the many family members who visit the Memorial Forest and the columbaria area. The cheque was presented by Mayor Judy Dahl to Lion Henry Czarnota, Lion Patrick Reed (Secretary),and Lion George Schwieger (President). Dec. 11,2024

Eyeglasses Collection Event
A table was setup at Olds Legion, on March 27th, to collect used eyeglasses for recycling at the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre. Eight grocery bags worth of glasses were collected. Manning the table were Lions Jessica Bristow, Rennie Fisher and Beat Zumbuehl. |

Olds Lions Club BBQ

Slippers for Ronald MacDonald House
A request was made from the Red Deer Ronald MacDonald House for some nitted slippers for parents staying at the home. The Olds Lions Club donated the cost the yarn for the nitting. Three ladies, Gwena Mabbott, Mary Ann Rupert and Beth Moritz, volunteered and made 39 pairs of slippers and they were donated to the House on Feb. 19/21. Thank you ladies. Feb. 21/21

Olds Lions Club Virtual Meetings
In response to the COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing the Olds Lions Club has initiated the us of Zoom software to allow members to attend meeting by virtual connections. As shown in this photo this is a combined in-person and virtual meeting using a donated 60" TV. As not every member is computer literate we have provided the option of attending in-person with social distancing. The club could, if required conduct virtual only meetings. Nov. 17, 2020

Henry's Christmas Dinner 2019
On December 25th, an annual event of providing a Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day to anyone in the Town of Olds who did not have a place to go for dinner. This annual event is continued as a joint project in on honour of Henry Sonnenberg by the Olds Lions Club and the Olds Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105. This year there were about 370 meals were served, most at the Legion but a number delivered to those unable to travel. Donations of food and funds by local businesses and individuals makes the event possible. As well this year a number of toys and teddy bears were donated and handed out to any of the children that attended with their parents.

Henry's Memorial Christmas Dinner
On December 25 the annual Henry Sonnenber Memorial Christmas Dinner was hosted by the Old Lions Club and the Olds Royal Canadian Legion. The dinner is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Anyone can come to the dinner, there is no charge but donations are greatfully accepted. Any money left after expenses is tradionally donated to the Mountain View District Food Bank. Dec. 25, 2018

Donation
The Christmas that keeps on giving - John Maeers (M) representing the food bank, accepts a donation for $1385.47 from Sheila Peters (L) representing the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105, and Marty Konsmo (R) representing the Olds Lions Club. The donation comes from the Henry Sonnenberg Christmas Dinner that the Olds Legion and Olds Lions Club co-hosted along with many volunteers. Approximatey 170 people came for dinner, there 20 takeout meals and 37 meals delivered to shut-ins who could travel for the dinner. March 21, 2017 |
